Ottawa Contest Organizers Promise a Leather Odyssey
Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull 2000 tickets & week-end packages now available

OTTAWA launches into the new millennium with 2001:  A Leather Odyssey, the eighth annual Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull competition.  This year’s contest takes place November 10 - 12, 2000.

Guards One of Canada’s best-known and best-loved leather events, Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull is presented by the Ottawa Knights, a local leather and denim club, and other members of Ottawa’s leather community.  The contest routinely attracts visitors to Canada’s capital from across Canada, the U.S., Europe and even Asia and Australia.

Contest organizers promise that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.  The weekend schedule includes MASK’s "Meet the Contestants" party, a bar night at Cellblock (the Knights’ home bar), dinner in the elegant Panorama Room at the National Arts Centre, the contest itself, the infamous after-hours party at a local sauna, and a Sunday brunch for any survivors.

Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull has earned an international reputation as one of the best organized and most entertaining leather events anywhere.  The contest itself takes place in a restored 90-year old vaudeville theatre that was voted Canada’s best live music venue.  It’s an engaging and fast-moving show which introduces the contestants, shows off their assets and talents, and presents a winner - all in less than two hours.  Even people who don’t normally like leather contests have been known to rave about this one!

The event is also winning praise for the quality of its competitors.  Dean Ross, Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull 1999, went on to win the Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather competition and to place ninth at International Mr. Leather (IML), the world’s largest leather competition.  Howard Hao, the current titleholder, placed sixth at this year’s IML, and was the only competitor to receive a standing ovation during the speech portion of the contest.

More than just a contest, though, Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull is also a celebration of the leather lifestyle that attracts an audience of more than 600 from around the world.  Local and out-of-town businesses, community organization and leather clubs have contributed to the event’s ongoing success.  The contest also gives back to the community:  in its eight-year history, organizers have donated more than ten thousand dollars’ worth of goods, services and cash to local gay community groups and AIDS charities.

This year’s contest will also mark the 25th anniversary of the Ottawa Knghts.

The Mr. Leather Ottawa-Hull weekend package, which includes admission to all events and a souvenir pin and T-shirt, is just $89 ($100 after October 1).  Tickets for "Meet the Contestants" and the contest itself are also available for $20 ($25 after October 1).  Both packages and tickets are available through Ticketmaster or directly from the Ottawa Knights:
