Royal Danish Embassy to Host Stage For AIDS Pre-Show Reception

Stage For AIDS 5
Just one month before the AIDS Committee of Ottawa`s fifth annual fundraising benefit gala, The Stage For AIDS / Les ARTS pour la vie, presented by Labatt, the ACO is delighted to announce that His Excellency Svend Roed Nielsen, Ambassador of Denmark, and his wife, Mrs. Anne-Marie Overbye, will host the traditional pre-show champagne reception in the beautiful Rockcliffe residence of the Royal Danish Embassy at 420 Lisgar Road.

On Friday, June 2, 2000, patrons who purchase the $125.00 'Buddie Gala' tickets, ONLY available through the offices of the AIDS Committee of Ottawa, will be treated royally for the fifth consecutive year with the traditional 'double-decker' ride from the National Arts Centre to the reception and back in time for this year’s 'POP SI-COOL' Canadian Showcase, The Stage For AIDS / Les ARTS pour la vie, presented by Labatt.  The show, produced by the ACO, in association with the National Arts Centre, will be presented in Southam Hall at the NAC at 8.30 p.m.

This annual benefit is now the premier fundraising event for the ACO, Ottawa’s principal HIV/AIDS front-line service agency, delivering programs and services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, as well as providing education, community outreach and advocacy programs to help reduce the spread of HIV.

Co-Producers Kent Newson and Michael Tabbitt are also pleased to announce the two co-hosts for the evening - Majic100’s popular morning man, Kevin Nelson and CBC’s French Radio One’s arts and culture correspondent, Anne Michaud.

Kevin’s off-the-cuff, humorous style has contributed to make ‘The Majic Morning Show’ Ottawa’s most popular morning radio show, and Anne is also a ‘morning’ broadcaster with her daily news magazine ‘Les Matins d’ici’, where she keeps her listeners informed and up-to-date about the rhythm and trends of cultural life in the Ottawa region.

Another news-flash is the addition to this year’s roster of artists of ‘hot’ and ‘funny man’ Gavin Crawford.  Originally from Alberta, Gavin now resides in Toronto, where, over the past two years he has been turning the Toronto comedy scene on its ear with his unique brand of character stand up.  Part of HBO’s US Comedy Arts Festival earlier this year and last summer’s Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Gavin has written and performed with The Second City in Toronto and most recently signed to perform in WB Television’s new sketch comedy show HYPE.  The show has just gone to camera and shows great promise in becoming part of WB’s line-up for the fall.

Regular tickets forThe Stage For AIDS / Les ARTS pour la vie are currently on sale at the NAC box office and through TicketMaster (755-1111), for $25, $50 and $75, and include a post-show reception at the NAC.
