Toronto's Fashion Cares

From 365gay.com.

(April 30, Toronto)  It was outlandish, sexual, erotic, and high fashion.  Fashion Cares, Toronto's major AIDS fundraising event, went off without a hitch Saturday night.

The annual event brings in more than a million dollars for various AIDS projects.

Five thousand people filled the Toronto Convention Centre for the show, which featured the works of the country's top designers.  This year, Hollywood legend Bob Mackie was also there.

Walking the catwalk, a collection of fashion models were punctuated by ballet dancers.  This year, the major fashion retailers set up shops around the perimeter of the centre.  The proceeds of their sales are going to Fashion Cares.

What started out a dozen years ago as an underground fashion show to raise money for AIDS, is today a glittering affair, with the denizens of high society vying for tickets, and a spot in front of the news cameras.

The event captured the top spot on Saturdays TV and radio news programs.
