Ottawa's Coral Reef Club to be Revived with 'Splash Saturdays'
Upcoming Event to Launch Series of Parties at Local Clubs
ONLINE:  FRIDAY FEBRUARY 4, 4:36 AM EST (GMT-5).
Out Productions

A major "Splash" production at the Coral Reef is set to revive that club and begin a series of Event Parties at bars across the Community, gayottawanow.com has learned.

Happening Saturday February 19th, a Retro Fashion theme party event at the classic venue is set to coincide with the closing of Ottawa's Winterlude and preview "Splash Saturdays" at the Coral Reef.  Also set to go are theme parties at other bars on a regular basis.

An initiative of Ottawa's Out Productions and sponsored by Capital Xtra!, the planned Splash Saturdays are expected to save the Coral Reef and introduce a new monthly party opportunity for men.

We're going to revive the Coral Reef as it was 30 years ago.
- Doug Muir

"It's a classic venue," said Douglas ("Dougie") Muir of Out Productions in describing the Coral Reef.  "It's in the basement of a garage and has a stainless steel dance floor and light show," he continued.  "[The Coral Reef] has been kept extremely clean and is a great size and a great space.  It's an old style disco - [hence] the Retro Fashion theme (1970s) for the preview of Splash Saturdays."

Dougie has a history of producing bar events and a production company.  "We're going to revive the Coral Reef as it was 30 years ago," he stated, and announced that Claude from the former Le Club in Hull will be blasting the party's dance tunes.

The shrinking revenues and patron base at the 30-year old women's bar have caused its owner to conclude he can't keep it going as it is, reported Dougie.  The planned monthly Splash Saturdays, to be mixed but geared with the guys in mind, are expected to cover the overhead and increase the patron base without sacrificing the bar as a place for Ottawa women.  A Community win-win solution, in other words.

"But we've got to save it by March 1st," said Dougie.  "So the preview of Splash Saturday is on the 19th with the big party planned for March 4th."

Also in the works for Ottawa nightlife are a series of events at other bars.  Again sponsored by Capital Xtra!, that Out Productions initiative will see the local Community's winter heat up with regular party productions.
